[CARTER'S FENCE]
Fairwater Register, February 12, 1904
A man by the name of
Long is charged with cutting through Ed Carter's fence that he might avoid the snow
drifts. Well, Ed's fence is a new one and in fact the best fence on the road, being of
woven wire and put up only last fall. What makes it still more dastardly there was a gate
only four rods from where the fence was cut and could have been used much handier if it
had been really necessary. Well, we guess Ed had a right to get mad about it, as a load of
beer passed right down the road the next day without going through the field so many are
of the opinion that the cutting of the wire was unjust and uncalled for. Nevertheless, Ed
has made the party agree to pay for the repairing of the same. People should not be too
hasty in cutting through fences of this kind.
