A CANAL TO THE FOX
Scheme To Connect Green Lake By Way Of Puckey Ann Creek
Brandon Times, March 30, 1899

A plan is being developed which has every promise of being carried out, to connect Fox river with Green Lake by a canal. The project is backed by Chicago parties who are interested in yachting. The scheme is to conver[t] the Puckey Ann, a small creek running from the lake, into a canal large neough to float the pleasure yachts. This would enable Chicago yachtsmen to bring their boats to the lake by water, via the Fox river. The canal will cost about $50,000 and will have two locks, one near the North-Western railway depot in Dartford and one at the outlet. It will be twenty-fove or thirty feet wide and four feet deep.
This will bring a large number of yachts from cities all along the shores of the Great Lakes and from the inland lakes connected with the Fox. To tolls will be charges and it is not proposed to permit it to be a money making scheme.
