[UTLEY HAS R. R. STATION]
Brandon Times, January 4, 1883

Utley is the name of a station on the Markesan Road just beyond the quarry, and they go through all the motions when trains arrive there, as if there was a big town. The train stops in an old wheat field, the beakeman [sic] opens the car door and shouts "Utley" loud enough to be heard a quarter of a mile, and when the lone passenger in the coach looked out of the window, there wasn't a building, a human being or even a cow in sight. But there is plenty of land to build a village on.
