The subject of the sermon at the Free Baptist Church Sunday, Jan. 31 will be: "Man not a product or creature of his environment" Luke 4:16, John 1:46. Everyone is cordially invited.
Although last Sunday was one of the coldest days in five years, the furnace of the new church was equal to the occasion and ran the thermometer up to 75 degrees during the afternoon service.
At the annual meeting of the Free Baptist church it was discovered that nearly $240 of the pledge made at the dedication were still unpaid, while every dollar of this is needed to meet bills which have been due for some time. A prompt payment of all of these pledges would greatly aid the church.
The new Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor has now gotten nicely started on its way, meeting each Sunday evening in the basement of the new church. All young people are welcome and are heartily invited to these meetings. The meeting next Sunday evening will be a Bible Study conducted by the pastor. Everyone come and bring your bibles.
On Friday evening, Jan.29, Rev. G.C. Albom will deliver his lecture on "Hillside College and My College Experiences," in the Free Baptist church. This lecture has been given in several other places and has been warmly commended by all who have heard it as a lively, vivid and humorous picture of life within college halls. All will be interested in it. Do not fail to turn out and hear it. Admission 10 cents. One-half of the proceeds to be used by the Young People' s Society, to help raise their pledge on the new church.
There was a little excitement at the parsonage Wednesday afternoon. Some of the weeks' wash was hanging on a chair near the stove and while everyone was in another room the chair in some way tipped over against the stove and a lively little blaze was in progress when it was discovered. Very prompt action prevented the spread of the flames to the carpet or room, and the only damage is that part of the preachers family are short of underclothes. Total loss. No insurance.
