Fairwater Public School, ca. 1910-1960

Fairwater's last public school building was constructed at the south end of Main Street in 1910. The 1893 plat map of the village indicates that the new building was built on the same site as the school building that preceded it. The photograph at the top pictures the new building and its first students following construction. Closeups of the students appear below the photo. (Photograph from Florian Laper)

This photograph above was taken during the 1920s. Notice in comparing this photo with the one above that the two classroom wings were not symmetrical. The north wing, facing the camera in this photo, housed a single classroom, while the south wing shown above housed two rooms. (Photograph from Cirena Lenz)

The bottom photo was taken in 1960 following the completion of the new classroom addition, one year before the Fairwater and Brandon school districts merged. Note that a roofed entry has been added at the front of the bell tower, covering most of the original arched doorway. (from the Grade School Yearbook, 1960, courtesy Bob Schuster)
