Wood Cemetery is located in section 5 of the town of Alto adjacent toCounty Highway JJ (Liner Road), just across the town line from Metomen. It is 4½ miles SW of Brandon on the south side of the highway, 1½ miles SE of Fairwater. The stones reflect a mixture of town of Alto and village of Fairwater residents.

On May 1, 1862, David Wood sold the land for the cemetery to Uriah Wood for $9. Woodbridge Sleeper, and William Sergeant were trustees of the cemetery. The earliest burial was Eunice E. Farnum, wife of Eli, who died March 13, 1848 at the age of 24. Amanda W. Weeks (age 23, May 26) and John W. Voss (age 25, June 27) both died the same year.
