AN OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY
DIED TUESDAY AFTERNOON AT THE HOME OF HER DAUGHTER IN ASHFORD

  Mrs. John Berg, a highly esteemed and one of the pioneer settlers and residents of Ashford, passed away in death at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Thelen, Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 of senility. She has been in a week condition all summer, death finally coming as a relief to the sufferer.
   The deceased maided name was Margaret Schmitt, was born May 13, 1829, in Nittel, Prussia, and attained the high age of 89 years and 8 months. She imigrated to this country in 1854, locating in Ashford where she made her home since, except a few years when she stayed with her daughter, Mrs. Math Weber at Merton. She was married on June 4th, 1855, at St. Martin's church at Ashford to John Berg.
   The deceased is survived by seven children namely: Elizabeth, Mrs. M. P. Wietor of South Eden; Margaret, Mrs. John Wietor of Merrill; Kathryn, Mrs. Math Weber of Merton; Mary, Mrs. John Brandt of Pewaukee; Martin of Edgar; William and Lena, Mrs. Frank Thelen, who reside at Ashford; one stepson John Berg of Appleton, 34 grand children and 20 great grand children. Her husband preceded her in death eight years ago.
   The funeral will be held Friday morning from St. Martin's Church at 10 o'clock with interment in the adjoining cemetery.
