PIONEER DIES
AT FOUR SCORE

HAD RESIDED IN THIS COUNTY FOR FIFTY YEARS

Peter Burke, a pioneer resident of Eden, died Friday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock, aged 80 years. He was born in Ireland, but came to this country in hi searly youth, locating first in New York. Energetic and ambitious, however, he became imbued with the free spirit of the west and believing that Wisconsin offered the greatest opportunities, came to this locality fifty years ago and settled on a farm in Eden, where he resided ever since.
Mr. Burke was a man of exceptional intelligence and his keen sense of humor and sociable character rendered him a most enjoyable companion. He counts his friends by the score in all sections of the county.
Three sons, Michael of Oconto, and Peter and Thomas of Eden, and two daughters Anna and Mary Jane of Eden, survive.
The funeral was held at 9:15 o'clock Monday morning from the residence in Eden and at 10 from St. Mary's church, Eden, with interment at Calvary cemetery. Rev. J. B. McFarland officiated. The pall-bearers were W. E. Gray, Louis Koehn, John Whealon and F. Fireloff. M. Burke and daughter of Oconto were among those from out of town who attended the funeral.
