NEW BUILDINGS IN
CAMPBELLSPORT
THE PAST YEAR SHOWS MANY IMPROVEMENTS IN OUR LITTLE CITY
With the closing of the old and the
beginning of a new year, we may look with pride, upon the advancement of our little city
during 1913, which includes the progress made by erecting new buildings and remodeling old
ones.
Beginning at the western limits, the Brittingham & Hixon Lum. company,
have installed a side track and erected new lumber sheds and warehouses, the Campbellsport
Implement Co. erected a new office building and salesrooms. Gates have been installed by
the railroad company at the Main street crossing. The Hotel Tony was enlarged by a two
story addition and the interior of the Northwestern hotel was decorated and re-furnished.
The shoe store and residence building of L. C. Kohler was treated with a stucco finish on
the exterior. J. A. Pesch created a two story, concrete garage on Main street and the
Campbellsport Mutual Fire Ins. company a concrete and brick office building, a cut of
which appears in this issue.
A new residence was erected for J. Enright on Elm street and a new home for
S. A. Hendricks on Poplar street is nearing completion. Besides these, a number of
residences that were erected during 1912 have been painted, the lawns graded and concrete
walks built about the respective buildings.
Campbellsport is now in the front rank as a trading center and is well
prepared to cater to its patrons. The First State Bank, a building of rare beauty, is
located here. We have five general stores, a large lumber yard, a furniture store, two
shoe stores, two hardware stores, four hotels, two garages, two meat markets, farm
implement dealers, four blacksmith shops, a drug store, eight buffets, a bakery, three
barber shops, two millinery and two dressmaking parlors, jewelry store, harness
manufactory, cigar factory, a flour and feed mill, a large cheese factory, a creamery and
a soda water factory. The village has two physicians, a dentist and a vetrinery [sic]
surgeon, carpenters, masons and painters, stock buyers and farm produce buyers.
Campbellsport is lighted by electricity, the current being furnished by the
Campbellsport Electric Light & Power company, who have a plant equipped with most
modern machinery.
