The M. W. A. 4th of July celebration combined with ideal weather, again attracted an enormously big crowd to Campbellsport yesterday, when industrial and automobile parades, races, contests, and band concerts were held in honor of Independence day.
An enthusiastic crowd was on deck to watch the performances and to participate in the various contests on the streets. While several thousand people were watching the contests, hundreds of others were enjoying dancing at Bauer's hall, and still others were busy at the concessions lined along the walks.
A fine array of floats was represented in the industrial parade and prizes for the best decorations were awarded as follows: First prize Red Cross society; second prize to Campbellsport Volunteer Fire department.
In the automotive parade the first prize was awarded to Beisbier & Jaeger and second prize to Herman Dunn of Dundee.
Peter Schrooten, A. D. Chesley and R. L. Raymond acted as judges in the industrial parade, and R. B. Ellis, Albert Schwandt and Henry Braun presided on the judicial bench during the automobile parade.
Dozens of contests and races were held during the afternoon, the big feature of the races was and auto start and speed contest in which Alfred Van De Zande, in the J. H. Hendricks car, was the winner of the first, and Richard Hodge winner of the second prize.
In the other contests the people joined in cheerfully, and prizes amounting to over $150 in cash and merchandise were awarded to the winners in these contests and races.
The celebration closed with the M. W. A. dance at the New Opera house, where it is estimated that over twelve hundred people enjoyed dancing to the music of Miller's orchestra of Fond du Lac. During the evening the Ford automobile was given away by the Woodmen, the lucky coupon was held by Ben Theisen.
