DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER
MRS. SARAH L. CISCO DIES AT HER HOME SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Mrs. Sarah L. Cisco, a pioneer resident, died at her home in this village Sunday afternoon at 3:10 o'clock.
Six weeks ago, Mrs. Cisco suffered a stroke of paralysis from which, however she recovered sufficiently to regain consciousness, which she retained until last Thursday afternoon, when she suffered a second stroke which was the ultimate cause of her death.
Sarah L. Southard was born in Sullivan County, New York, September 16, 1830. She was married to Sylvester Cisco in 1848, and in 1860 they came to Wisconsin, where they spent the first year in Oakfield, the second in Ashford and then bought forty acres] in the town of Auburn, where Mrs. Cisco assisted her husband in clearing the land, the work of which included the wielding of the ax, rolling the logs together to be turned, and and they did not possess a team of horses or even oxen, the planting of corn with a hoe into the un-broken soil. In 1865 they sold their first farm and purchased 141 acres of stony, muddy land, which they brought to a state of cultivation, not excelled by any farm in the county. The farm is now owned by David Knickel and located on the outskirts of this village.
On February 14, 1892, Mr. Cisco died and in 1900, when Mr. Knickel purchased the farm and all personal property, Mrs. Cisco moved into the village where she resided since.
