CURRAN TAKES
OATH OF OFFICE
T. N. CURRAN TO TAKE OVER
DUTIES OF POST MASTER IN
NEAR FUTURE
T. N. Curran, recently appointed post
master of Campbellsport, took oath-of-office last Thursday afternoon and is now getting
familiarized with the work and duties of the office, preparatory to taking charge of the
same in the near future.
Mr. Curran, the new postmaster, was born in the town of Ashford and has
resided in this community all his life time, he conducted, the livery business, now owned
by Krueger Bros., on North Fond du Lac avenue, for eight years. He has served as
supervisor from here on the county board for two terms, and for a number of years was a
deputy sheriff of this county.
T. F. Flanagan, who served as postal clerk at the local office, under the
retiring postmaster, Mr. Platt Durand, during the past 8 years, will continue his services
under Mr. Curran.
A deputy postmaster will be appointed within the near futurew. "Although
a postmaster is allowed his choice of selecting a person for his deputy, the matter goes
to the department at Washington" said Mr. Curran "and it may be several weeks
before I can officially announce the name of my deputy."
Mr. John H. Paas, the retiring deputy postmaster served in that capacity for
twenty-two year.
The postoffice of Campbellsport was established on the 25th day of May 1877,
and on that day Mr. Platt Durand, the retiring postmaster received his first commission as
4th class postmaster, thus he also carries with him the distinction of having been the
first postmaster of Campbellsport. He served one term or until 1881 when the late James
McCullough was appointed and served under the Democratic administration, until 1889, Mr.
Durand receiving his second Commission on June 17, 1889, and served until 1893; and he was
re-appointed June 25, 1897. On October 1, 1906, the local office was placed into third
class and Mr. Durand was given a third class postmastership commission on January 5, 1907.
His second commission as third class postmaster is dated January 20, 1911. May 25, 1915 it
will be 38 years since the local postoffice was established and during that time Mr.
Durand has held the office of postmaster thirty years.
