DRAFT NOTICES ARE ARRIVING
MEN OF SELECT DRAFT WILL BE EXAMINED AT RIPON
DURING THE COMING WEEK
Notices, ordering the men in the first
draft to appear before the board of exemption, at Ripon, are now being received by them.
According to a member of the board of this district, examinations will take
place during next week.
The following persons upon presentation of a claim presented on the regular
blank form, may receive a certificate of absolute, conditional, or temporary discharge as
the case may require:
1. County and municipal officers.
2. Custom house clerks.
3. Persons employed by the United States in the transmission of the mails.
5. Artificers and workers employed in armories, arsenals, and navy yards of
the United States.
5. Persons employed in the service of the United States designated by the
President to be exempt.
6. Pilots.
7. Mariners actually employed in the sea service of any citizen or merchant
within the United States.
8. Any married man whose wife or child is dependent upon his labor for
support.
9. Any son of a widow dependent upon his labor for support.
10. Any son of aged or infirm parents depending upon his labor for support.
11. The father of a motherless child or children under sixteen years of age
dependent upon his labor for support.
12. The brother of a child, or children, under sixteen years of age who has,
or have, neither father nor mother and is or are, dependent upon his labor for support.
13. Any member of a well recognized religious sect organized and existing May
18, 1917, whose then existing creed forbids its members to participate in war in any form.
14. All persons morally deficient.
