TWO LITTLE GIRLS DROWNED FRIDAY--COMPANION SAVED

   Hilda Lemke, the 9 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Lemke, 365 Grand Street, and Amanda Leu, the 9 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leau, 440 Ctinton Street, were drowned and Molly Lemky, the 9 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Lemke, 502 West Scott Street, naroly escaped a similar fate when the three little girls jumped into the river from the railroad bridge near West Scott Street in order to avoid being killed by the Soo line passenger train
   Molley Lemky was rescued by C. E. Lucus, former superintendent of the septic sewer plant, and now proprietor of the Landing buffet. The body of Amanda Leu was found in the river a short distance south of the Scott street bridge at 7:20 Friday night and the body of Hilda Lemke was found north of the bridge at 7:30 o,clock Saturday morning.
   The three little girls were going home from school and in order to arrive home sooner started across the railroad bridge. They were clasping each other's hands and had gotton about half way across the bridge when they noticed the passenger train approaching. According to the story told this morning by Molly Lemky, she jumped into the river first and the others followed.
  
Within an instant the three little girls had disappeared beneath the surface of the water. Railroad men and others who witnessed the accident, hurried to the scene and threw boards and ropes into the river in a vain effort to rescue the little girls.
