DEATH OF
A PIONEER
AUGUST FIRKS DIES AT THE HOME
OF HIS SON NEAR NEW FANE

   August Firks, an esteemed citizen of New Fane, and a former resident of this vicinity, died at the home of his son near New Fane last Thursday morning, at the advanced age of ninety years.
   August Firks was born in Lubbin, Pommerania, Germany, on August 5, 1825. He moved to Town Herman, Dodge county, in 1850. Here he met and married Augusta Krueger, who survive him. In 1882 they moved onto a farm one and a half miles south of this village, which they held until old age compelled them to retire, when they settled at New Fane.
   Besides his widow he is survived by six sons, August and Otto Firks of Theresa; FRank of Racine; William and Henry of New Fane and John of Route 32 Campbellsport; three daughters, Mrs. Amelia Nieland and Mrs. Anna Trost of Kewaskum and Mrs. Lena Ferber of Campbellsport.
   The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Lutheran church at New Fane, the Rev. C. J. Gutekunst officiating.
   J. W. Ferber and family, William Ferber and family, Mrs. Philip Guenther, Mr. and Mrs. David Knickel and William Knickel from here attended the funeral service at New Fane Sunday.
