MRS. HERMAN GRITT AND JOS. SMITH AMONG DEATH'S TOLL OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Herman Gritt, died at her
home in town Ashford Tuesday evening, June 15, at the age of 64 years, of heart trouble.
She had been in ill health for the past few weeks but her condition was not considered
serious, so her death comes as a great shock to her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband and two daughters, (Mary) Mrs. Wm. Bartelt of
Milwaukee, and (Clara) Mrs. Edwin Gross of Chicago, three grand-children and one brother,
August G. Hafner of this village.
TRhe deceased was a kind and loving mother, a true friend and neighbor and
will be greatly missed. She was a devoted member of the German Reformed church of Elmore
for many years.
JOSEPH SMITH
Joseph Smith, aged 75 years, a pioneer and highly respected citizen of town
Auburn died, suddenly Monday evening at six o'clock, at his home near the village of New
Prospect.
Mr. Smith was returning from the home of his daughter, who lives nearby, and
when he entered the yard of his own premises he was stricken with paralysis and died
before he could be removed to the house. Heart disease was the cause of his death.
Deceased is survived by one daughter, (Mary) Mrs. Albert Harrington of town
Auburn, and three sons, Peter and Adam Smith of Milwaukee, and Joseph Smith, Jr., at home.
The funeral services were held this morning at 9:30 o'clock from St.
Matthew's Catholic church here, Rev. Father July officiating. Interment took place in the
Union cemetery.
