SUCCUMBS TO HIS INJURIES
PETER GUEPE DIED AT MILWAUKEE HOSPITAL LAST
SATURDAY MORNING
Peter Guepe, died at 12:20 o'clock
Saturday morning in a hispital in Milwaukee, following injuries which he sustained at the
local railroad station January 16th, on the occasion of visiting his mother, Mrs.
Magdalena Guepe, who was then critically ill and who passed away January 18th. Mr. Guepe's
funeral was held Monday morning at St. Matthew's church here, Rev. B. July officiating
with burial at Union cemetery. The remains were brought to this village over the
Northwestern railroad Monday morning on the 9:15 o'clock train.
Mr. Guepe was leaving Campbellsport on the evening of January 16th, after
spending the day with his mother. When Train No. 116 reached the local station, the one
which Mr. Guepe intended to take, his brother John Guepe of Fond du Lac got off. Peter
Guepe stepped on the platform for a few minutes to talk with him, and as the train was
starting he took hold of the guard rail to board the train. In some unexplainable manner
he missed his footing and fell down in between the car and the platform. His clothing
became caught in a journal on the car trucks and he was dragged the length of the depot
platform, being crushed against the side of the walk by the movement of the train.
Mr. Guepe sustained a broken leg and is believed to have been internally
injured. He has been confined in the Milwaukee Hospital ever since the accident. He is
survived by two brothers, John, of Fond du Lac; Albert, of Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs.
Theresa Doctor, of Milwaukee and Miiss Mary Gueye, of this village.
The same bearers who carried Mr. Guepe's mother to her grave, on the 22nd of
last January, also carried him to his last resting place. They were Michael Jaeger, John
Granger, P. M. Schlaefer, Walter Glass, Henry Leibel of this village, and Martin Herbert
of Fond du Lac. |
