OLD RESIDENT
DIES SUDDENLY

James McCullough, a pioneer resident of this village and the senior member of McCullough Bros., died at his home here Monday afternoon after an illness of only a few hours.
On Sunday Mr. McCullough was apparently in his usual health and spent the afternoon with friends. About 5 o'clock he started for his store to attend to the furnace, and suddenly became ill. Realizing the need of medical assistance he telephoned for a doctor and when the physician arrived he found Mr. McCullough lying partially unconscious on a sofa in the store.
Mr. McCullough was removed to his home and later Dr. Connell of Fond du Lac was called in consultation. About 9 o'clock Mr. McCullough became unconscious and remained so until his death, which occurred about 2:45 the following afternoon. It is thought he sustained a stroke of some kind.
Mr. McCullough was born in Dutchess county, New York, on July 28, 1848, and removed with his parents to Wisconsin the following year, settling on a farm in the town of Auburn, Fond du Lac county. In 1873 he opened the first business place in the then infant village of Campbellsport, in the building now occupied by the postoffice. About 16 years ago he took as a business partner his brother, M. L. McCullough with whom he has since been associated in a general merchandise and provision business under the firm name of McCullough Bros.
Mr. McCullough is survived by five sisters, Mary Jane, Ella, Isabelle, and Mrs. Anna Flynn of this village, and Mrs. Kathryn Curran of Ashford; and two brothers, Thomas and Michael L. of this village.
Funeral services were held from St. Matthew's church this morning and interment made in St. Matthew's cemetery.
