Patrick J. Flynn Completes
Fifty Years of Service with N. W. Railroad Last Saturday
The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad
company entertained at a banquet, Saturday afternoon at one o'clock, in honor of Patrick
J. Flynn, who on that day completed fifty years of uninterupted service with the company.
The banquet was in the form of a five course dinner, served at the
Northwestern Hotel dining room by the Misses Lillian Behuke, Theresa and Lillian Bauer,
under the supervision of Mrs. Jos. Bauer. The room was decorated in the National colors
and the table bore bouquets of cut flowers.
Superintendent G. M. Daily, and Assistant Superintendent E. B. Hall of
Chicago, Road Master E. C. Jones of Milwaukee, and the local station agent, E. F. Roethke
had charge of the affair and in the course of the entertainment these men spoke of their
experience in railroad work with Mr. Flynn, who has had charge of the Campbellsport
section crews practically all of the fifty years of his employment with the company.
Messrs. Daily, Jones and Roethke pointed out the sterling qualities of loyalty and
faithfulness in the pioneer railroad man, while Mr. Hall spoke of the good habits, sturdy
constitution and vitality of Mr. Flynn, "vitality, however," stated the speaker,
"can only be attributed to the good cooking of Mrs. Flynn." The celebrant was
the recipient of a bouquet of fifty roses, the presentation being made by his grandson,
Carrol Arimond. Mr. Flynn did not make any statement, but one of his old associates, who
sat opposite him at the table said, "the affair was a big surprise, and it
pleased us all to see that it was appreciated by him and that our "Pat" was
happy."
With Mr. Flynn at the table were Mrs. Flynn; his daughters, Mrs. L. C.
Arimond and Miss Mayme Flynn, is son, Attorney John Flynn; his son-in-law, L. C. Arimond,
and his grandson Carrol Arimond; Superintendent E. B. Hall, Road Master R. C. Jones,
Station Agent E. F. Roethke, Section Foreman Al Kiekhefer of West Bend, Henry Kiekhefer
and Henry Piehl of Milwaukee; William Pool, L. C. Kohler, Platt Durand, John H. Paas, M.
R. Boeckler, E. F. Martin, Dr. J. H. Johnstone Weld, R. B. Ellis, J. F. Meixensperger,
Michael Farrell, J. H. Kleinhans, T. N. Curran, P. M. Schlaefer, A. G. Krans, W. I.
Sullivan and H. C. Scholler.
Mr. Flynn began work on a wood train out of Fond du Lac in 1867. In 1863,
when the company built this division, he was given work here and since the completion of
the road has held the position of section foreman.
