JOHN PETERMAN KILLED IN
ACTION
TOWN AUBURN YOUNG MAN REPORTED AMONG CASUALTIES
ON NOV. 2
Again on Monday afternoon, a message
that brought deep sorrow to the home of Mr. and Mrs. August Peterman, residing on route 6,
about two and a half miles south east of the village, was received by them, announcing the
death of their son, Private John Robert, who was killed in action in FRance on November 2.
John R. Peterman was born in town Auburn on March 3, 1896, where he grew to
manhood and resided until he was called to the service of hius country on April 26, 1918.
He entered training at Camp Grant, Ill., where he was attached to Company H, 354th
Infantry. On June 5th he sailed for overseas duties, arriving in France on June 22.
The younf soldier is survived by his parents, two brothers, Arthur of
Kewaskum and Henry at home; three sisters, Mrs. Cora Robb of Milwaukee, Mrs. Otto Kolpke
of Beechwood and Miss Olga residing with her parents, besides a large circle of friends
who will learn with sorrow of the young soldiers death.
Memorial services for the young man will be conducted at the New Fane
Lutheran Church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. It is expected that 28th Separate
Company, W. S. G. R., of this village, will attend in a body to pay their last respects to
one who lay down his life for his country.
Peterman entered the service at the same time that Louis Tunn, Henry Uelmen,
Charles Cole, and Andrew Polzean, all of Campbellsport. He was also a comrade of the late
Albert Leibel of this village and Carl Hohensee of Rosendale, who gave up their lives on
the battle fields of France. |
