Campbellsport News, April 23, 1914

TEN YEARS AGO

A copy of the Campbellsport News, dated March 18, 1904, when C. E. Broughton was editor and publisher of the paper, was brought to this office Wednesday.
The issue contains many interesting features, among them an item of the organization of the first Volunteer Fire Department in Campbellsport, containing also good likeness of the first chief, William Wedde, who, by the way, was again chosen chief when the department was re-organized several months ago.
It may seem that not many changes have taken place in our little city during the past ten years, yet when we look over the paper published in 1904, we find that the names of firms and citizens of Campbellsport differ in many instances. In the item about the fire department is a list of the names of the members of the department organized at that time and out of the 54, who signed the roll, there are 33 remaining here, 4 death and 17 moved away.
As to the carriers on the rural mail routes the issue contains a list as follows: route 29, John F. Naughton; route 30, Henry Wenzel; route 32, Arthur L. Smith; route 33, Joseph Goss. Route 31 was established later and the patrons of route 34 were supplied from the subrural mail station at Waucousta, John Bast being carrier.
