ABOUT THE COLLECTION

This site is sponsored by the Fairwater Historical Society in commemoration of James Pond's boyhood on the Pond family farm south of the village and in recognition of his role in the Fairwater area on the eve of the American Civil War, which extended to the recruitment of his brothers Homer and George Pond and fourteen other Fairwater enlistees.

Despite Pond's distinguished life and his celebrity, he is now largely forgotten as an historical figure, and his works are no longer in print. The society's goal is to make his writings and his biography available again to the public.
