II. Minutes

Judy Scheele and Sandi Fortney were selected co-chairs and Joe DeRose was selected as Recording Secretary.

A mission statement was finalized. It states, "Its mission will be to coordinate preservation and education efforts statewide and integrate historic sites, facilities, and interpretive programs associated with the Underground Railroad into a linkage of local statewide networks and routes."

Documented locations and names of Underground Railroad sites will be sent to Weaver by November 15th.

Develop a database of Underground Railroad sites that are either A) documented sites, B) plausible sites, and C) unsubstantiated sites based on the National Park Service model and put on WURNTF web site.

Karen Pearson of the Urban League will write a grant to have students, guided by staff of the Black Holocaust Museum, research category B and C properties for the database.

Wisconsin Underground Railroad Network to Freedom is selected as the new name for the organization.

In the future, divide the WURNTF into regions. It was decided to use the Area Research Center regions of the Wisconsin Historical Society as a base.

Members should continue to send Bob Schuster information to add to the web site:
